THE UNCONVENTIONAL WORKOUT

We love getting out and about to keep fit. Living in Australia means we get pretty good weather year around and Sydney has so many amazing locations to check out – why not get out and see them while getting in a workout! Here are some of our favourite unconventional workouts.

Paddle Boarding

Paddle boarding is a great way to stay active! Out on the water, checking out the amazing marine life and it’s good for all levels from beginner to expert. You have two options either still water or ocean. Still water is better for beginners. Best to work your way up to ocean paddle boarding as your stability evolves as it’s a fair bit more challenging.

A paddle boarding session is great for you core, shoulders, back and legs, it’s basically a full body work out. It’s great for coordination and balance and it’s also a good low intensity cardio that gets your heart rate to a good fat burning level.

Indoor Rock Climbing
A really fun way to build upper and lower body strength. It is also a great way to challenge yourself mentally as heights are something that many people fear so confronting this in a safe and controlled environment is ideal! Try both the harness rope assisted climbing and bouldering wall for different experiences. Get some friends together and make an afternoon of it –  definitely one to try.

Bush Walking

There are so many amazing bush walking tracks around Australia that lead to even more incredible views and lookouts. Whether you’re looking for a challenging track that will fulfill your interval training or you’re just beginning – there is something for every range of fitness.

Our favourite spots: Taronga Zoo to Balmoral, Spit to Manly & Hermitage Foreshore Track.

Sand Dunes

Sand dunes aren’t for the faint hearted! Sprints on the sand dune would have to be one of the tougher way to keep active, particularly during the hotter months. In saying that – it’s an awesome work out. Whether you go for a quick explosive workout or a more low key approach, you’ll be targeting your glutes, hamstrings, calves and feet.

Our favourite spots: North Palm Beach & Kurnell (Cronulla)

Surfing

This doesn’t even feel like a routine workout. Being out on the water, enjoying your environment – tech free, it’s a great way to be present & get some vitamin D! Surfing is fantastic for coordination and balance. Also works on your general fitness and shoulder, back and core strength. Whether you get out with a group of friends or head out alone, surfing is one of our absolute favourite non workout workout’s year around! Never surfed before? There’s no better time to give it a try.

Ocean Swimming

Swimming is a fantastic full-body workout – it’s a excellent cardio, leading to increased endurance and great muscle tone. If you’re a beginner, it’s best to start out in the pool as it gives you the option to take a break and is more of a controlled environment. Not new to swimming? Up the excitement factor and take your swim to the ocean.  There’s something pretty incredible about swimming along side the marine life in the fresh salt water – it’s really invigorating!
