Having a good collection of fragrances is important for every guy. Unless you really consider it, it’s easy to keep wearing the same one over and over. You wouldn’t wear a woolen knit continually through the warmer months, you’d switch it up to a linen shirt.

Having different colognes for different seasons and occasions is becoming easier as each year designers release seasonal fragrances.

While some colognes work all year around and for any occasion there are others that are seasonal. For example, those that feature richer, spicier notes are best for winter although they can translate well to evening. Best to keep in mind that for spring and summer evenings, cologne made up of notes from nature such as sandalwood, cedar and citrus are best.

Lighter, fresher fragrances that feature citrus oils such as neroli, bergamot, mandarin and lemon notes work best in the warmer months. In the warmer weather heavier fragrances will often ‘suffocate’ unlike many of the commonly used notes in summer fragrances that are refreshing and brighter.

The way to get the best out of your cologne is to spray it on the neck, a little on the chest area and a spray on the back of the hair. Hair is a good carrier for fragrances as the oils sinks into your hair which means the scent will last longer.

We’ve put together a rundown of a few of our favourites broken down by season.
